I saw a link on Facebook so I decided to visit. I remembered a senior of mine in college who told me about the news last week. I do not know Gary Leon Robert personally but I have heard of her sister being my super senior in college. I also do not know her sister personally. But somehow, you know a friend who knows a friend who knows a sibling of Gary.. something along the line.
I feel so saddened after reading the story. I feel it because I know of a few uni mates who often join runs like this. They join runs every now and then and we always hear about those events. Suddenly, you read about this sort of news which is so shocking. If I have known the person personally, I don’t think I would have taken it so easily. I would be all fueled up with anger, frustration and sadness.
Don’t get me wrong. I am awfully saddened by this story. I put myself in the shoes of people who know Gary personally and I think I can cry my heart out. It is just so….. shocking and disheartening.
I think many people are going to mourn over the passing of director Yasmin Ahmad.

I first learnt about her when the film Sepet boomed in the local film industry. Being someone who hardly follows the local entertainment scene, I was surprised to find myself drawn to Sepet. It must be that cross-cultural message sent across in the movie. Something different from the typical locally produced films.

Yasmin Ahmad is also well known for her Petronas ads on local tv. She has those very touching and different-than-typical ads which draw one’s attention.
Yasmin Ahmad collapsed a few days ago when she was at Sri Pentas. It was buzzing everywhere from online dailies to Twitter and Facebook where everyone was spreading news and updates on her. Just now, a Facebook status caught my attention.
“RIP Yasmin Ahmad” it says. I was shocked. I went to The Star and found that she has passed away near midnight last night from massive cranial haemorrhage. Her body will be buried at the SS20 muslim cemetery.
On tv today, I watched the old Oprah Winfrey show on this death row sentence of Bart Whitaker for taking the lives of his mother and brother. It was eerie to learn that he actually comes from a very nice, loving family but just because he feels that he isn’t ‘cut’ for all these ‘idealness’, he held grduges against his own family members.
Thus, I went online to read more about the Whitaker family. It is painful to see that Bart, the eldest son, even faked his college graduation. Sometimes, I do wonder.. whose fault is it?
I believe if a child is not academically inclined, there is always vocational technical colleges to go to. The society should never look down on them. People have different levels of academic capabilities.
Well, then there is thing about Bart being a sociopath and so on. I don’t even know what is that!
Anyway, I found Bart Whitaker’s blog here. Go have a look.
