COTD: Ashton Kutcher

I first watched this American actor in the comedy “What Happens In Vegas” starring Cameron Diaz. It was an impromptu decision to go for movies but I thought a romance comedy wouldn’t hurt. I have heard of this name Ashton Kutcher previously but I never exactly knew how did actor look like. It was quite heart-melting to watch him. I think he deserves to be the COTD!

Of course, like any curious person, I went to read up about this actor. I was surprised to read that he married Demi Moore (hey I always thought she was with Bruce Willis - this shows how outdated I am!).. and their age difference is a gasping 15 years!

Random facts on this COTD..

  • First name is Christopher
  • Former fashion model
  • Has a fraternal twin brother
  • He studied biochemical engineering in university but didn’t graduate with a degree

Even more interesting stuffs I read.

Ashton’s former girlfriend Ashley Ellerin was found stabbed to death in her apartment in February 2001. She was a fashion model. Just hours before she was found dead, Ashton went to her place to pick her up for the 43rd Grammy Awards, but no one answered the door. Through a back window, he saw what looked like red wine stains, and left. Her body was found later in the day by her roommate. After learning about that, Ashton went to the police to offer any help if he was needed in the investigation.

In August 2008, police announced that they had traced Ellerin’s murder to suspected serial killer Michael Gargiulo, a Santa Monica resident who is charged in the stabbing deaths of at least three women.

Portraits

Have you ever gotten a sketched portrait of yourself? I think it is interesting. Sometimes, technology has brought us into a realm that makes us forget the most basic things in life. The real art using fingers and hands dirtied with pencil lead, crayons, water colour or oil paints are forgotten. Instead, people turn to the computer for graphic designs. They can manipulate many things from just a click of the mouse away.

I suddenly think of the street artists who make a little out of living. They wait under hot, scorching sunlight for customers who care to get their service to draw a piece of themselves. I haven’t seen much of these artists around, but I would think they are the remnants of what technology has done to the artsy world.

Are parents pushing too far?

On tv today, I watched the old Oprah Winfrey show on this death row sentence of Bart Whitaker for taking the lives of his mother and brother. It was eerie to learn that he actually comes from a very nice, loving family but just because he feels that he isn’t ‘cut’ for all these ‘idealness’, he held grduges against his own family members.

Thus, I went online to read more about the Whitaker family. It is painful to see that Bart, the eldest son, even faked his college graduation. Sometimes, I do wonder.. whose fault is it?

I believe if a child is not academically inclined, there is always vocational technical colleges to go to. The society should never look down on them. People have different levels of academic capabilities.

Well, then there is thing about Bart being a sociopath and so on. I don’t even know what is that!

Anyway, I found Bart Whitaker’s blog here. Go have a look.

To keep thyself busy

For the past two weeks or so, I have been ranting non-stop about my boredom and my almost no-effort job search. Job hunting is never easy, especially for people like me who has yet to earn any qualifications. Not to mention, I have got absolutely no previous job experience, to make matters worse. I think I just want to settle for odd jobs here and there. I cannot be tied down with all these commitments. Maybe just not now yet.

For the mean time, I have improved in my daily living. Today’s Lent devotional article talks about seeing everyday anew. I thought it was really good. It is refreshing knowing that today is a brand new day. I should learn not to think of routines and cycles of routine non-stop. I should learn to see from a new perspective in life. Indeed, I have been helping my mum with paperwork, marking test papers and doing fun stuffs.

Tennis should come real soon as well! Just can’t wait.

Wooden bookshelves

It is always a joy to read some good books. Throughout the years, whether it is academic books or novels alike, my family has collected a tremendous amount of books. Where do we dump them all?

Yes, this rubber wood pieces of bookshelves are beautiful. I like the rich wood colour and uneven tone that give them a natural look. Compared to other bookshelves we scouted, this one is relatively more affordable. After all, rubber wood isn’t the most sought after type of wood, I suppose. However, I like still like rubber woods. They somehow have got this ‘vintage’ look to go with the entire feel and atmosphere.

In the end, we decided on two variety. One is the open shelf, another is the one with glass doors.
